Hi everyone, I'm going to be getting about 20+ 1.5-3" FHs this weekend and I was just wondering if there's anything special I should do w/ them? Feed them hikari cichlid gold while they're small? What should their normal water temp and ph be? Would I be able to put them all in to a 55 or a 75 for a little while? Thanks...

small hikari pellets

I have one about that size and he likes the cichlid gold and its a baby pellet size. He has trouble with the cichlasoma new life spectrum pellets as he can only eat one about every 5 minutes and it looks like its a lot of work for him.

good luck, post pics of them!

Water temp - 86 degrees F.
pH - anything stable above 7, I would say... a lot of experienced keepers recommend 7.5 - 7.8.. Mine's stable at 8.2.. don't wanna mess with my tap water pH every water change.
20's a lot.. the 3 inchers will be the dominant ones.. I had just 6 in a 55 gallon and I got rid of 5 of 'em in like a week.. they were already fighting with eachother.. but mainly because I wanted my keeper to have more room to growout..

I think if you have 'em in there without any decorations.. or anything they can make territory, then you should be fine for a little while.. until 3 - 4 inches at least.. ie., flat, even gravel(no bumps, hills or no gravel at all), no plants, no decorations, etc.

Probably only like 3 or 4 of them will be 3" and about 10 will be 1.5" and the rest will be in-between. I have an empty 75 and an empty 55 now and my friend said he'll take some if needed. But thanks again for the ph and water temp info. The food info too. That should about cover it, right? Do I need a more than average turnover ratio or anything like for Ps? Thanks...
