i have a bonded pair of texas's in my tank. they show a interested trying to breed, they are both in breeding color. females tummy is very full, i put divider in tank to give them their own space, temp is about 82, they are found of a log i have in there and a pot, any other ideas?
what works with my jacks is a big water change, bit of hamburger meat, and if that doesnt work i tape a mirror on the tank so the male has some "competition" gets him wound up and in return gets the female going
I got my Carpinte to breed at 3-4" by bumping the temp up to 86, i fed rinsed bloodworms and chopped prawns 2-3 times a day. And also performed 50% warm water changes every other day. They would spawn in no time at all.
I kept them in a 95G with some convicts.
Do a 20 percent water change but make sure the new water is colder. For example: If your tank water is at 86 degrees, the new cold water should be at 50-60 degrees. Works well for me, but just not sure how healthy it is. I have heard both sides of the argument. No casualties for me yet. Been 3 yrs now since I tried this method.

I generally dim the lights, put on some nice romantic music (bow chicka bow wow), give them a little champagne then leave the room. It works every time.
cold water prompts them because its just rained and thats usually when they breed and they dont like to much light but some people have bred with full lighting though
and leave them be dont move much stuff around well thats mostly jds with the light dimming and that
