getting the hump!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can contradict me all you want! It is that way, by changing experiences and views that we learn.

I am only talking about my experiencd, also:)

No ome knows all, or even a lot, about fish....

Of course the statement I made only applies to Midas and is not relevant if the specimen is a hybrid Midas/rd. there is no way to tell bloodlines and the fish certainly inherited genes for hump and no humps along the way. In summary, male Midas= hump. 60% of the time, it works every time.

If we are talking pure, certifiable, Midas, i agree with you.

None of my bulls is certifiable. I have perfect midas look alikes, as RD, as in betweens...and the Midas look alikes have humps, bigger or smaller, it is true...

You have some mean looking bulls Miguel. But to the op, what is the stock list and tank dimensions. No intentions of flaming, just curious.

I have a 450 litre (5ft) set up currently, stock is the big 12in+ "midas" a 7-8in male red devil, a male 6in tilapia buttikoferi, male 6-7in texas, male 5in geophagus brasiliens two venezualan pikes around 7in, a little 3-4in jag, male adult convict, male JD approx 3-4in, a pleco and a birchir....it is overstocked at the moment, but I will be letting the Geophagus, one of the pikes and JD go very soon and probably the convict, and also am going to be upgrading to a 6.5ft set up this year :) I do water changes twice a week, and am overfiltering by almost double the requirement....once upgraded my eventual stock list will hopefully be the red devil, the midas, the butti, the texas the jag and one of the pikes, and another male amph or two....(cichlid wise)

Ou know you are currently overstocked. Happens to all.

Beyond that, get rdi of jd as well, has no chance with big amphilophus. The convict may live in a hole.

After letting go what has to go ( pikes i do not like, so i do not opine ) make it a male amphi comm, with the butti.

But be sure we are alking males only. If not you have havoc in the near future....

yeah I will be thinning out the stock very soon...maybe even this weekend, what about the texas? would you think he will last? I would love to keep him if possible....

If it already lives in tere, should be no problem, if it is no problem yet.

With texas i find it is the newcomers that have difficulties....

yeah he seems to get on ok....the big male "midas" does have a go at him now and then but he gets out the way in time mostly....the big "midas" also has been picking on the "red devil" a fair bit lately too....I do worry as he is a big fish, and has some seriously big teeth on him and is getting more and more prone to using them!

You need to up the ante..take the weaklings out and get one or two more bulls in. That should even things.

The idea is fo split agression. We cannot have one sole victim, bevause they loose tjeir confidence in themselves and give up.

Sign of that is whenthey hide in the most akward position behind tubes, heaters, etc... That is a sign they have lost already.
