LOLOLOL, I just thought it was funny, that's all haha I had the longest and most informative post, FIRST and most of the other posts just kinda reflected my opinion......it's like everyone waited like "Wait, let's see what Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 has to say 1st before we start the "likes" , Frank's a little loony - he says stuff so well you tend to agree with him whether it's a good idea or not" lolololol

Anyway, i'll be back later, I got this Eskimo who wants to buy ice-cubes off me.....:D

concern is with the juvies obviously some will be female and isn't there the chance that a dominant male out of the juvies pairs of with one of the females (from the juvies) and not my current female.... I've had her for a few years now and patience is an understatement. Tree's grow faster.

and from what I read its nearly impossible to sex them at even a medium size. But maybe you knuckle heads can work some wonders for me.

DMD123 DMD123 please post some pics of your male... as many as possible

STAY ON SUBJECT... this thread can get trashed after its reached its usefulness to me

If you can find a sized right male, you can always try, what's the worst that could happen, one gets dead.
I''ll give you a couple examples of my experiences with that, a buddy had a large female Tomocichla tuba(12"), I had 3 slightly smaller males (10"). I gave all 3 males to him, his female killed 2, but mated with the last live one, and in the I ended up with half dozen juvies.

above the female tuba is guarding a stream of brown eggs
Another example, I had a 10" female haitiensus that killed every hait that grew up with her.
I finally found a 12" male, and within 2weeks of putting them together , they spawned, and spawned again and again for a few years.

I will admit putting adults together can be iffy, and adults are often much more expensive.
The pair bonding seems almost always stronger with pairs who chose each other, and usually had a better spawning success rate.
Adults are usually way more expensive.
Where I lived, I could usually get juvies of just about any cichlid for @ $3 each, so if a pair formed and killed off a few in the process, the financial pain was not as great as buying a $50 or more adult fish, and finding it dead the next morning.

Jaws, why are you concerned about a young male pairing up with a young female and not your existing female.
Hetros are a great fish to keep in harems, one male and three or so females.Being one of the smallest and most peaceful of the genus the harem approach is the way I would go.
Plus they look amazing together.
