ok i have seen all the diy overflow threads. i understand they work and how. heres my ? would making a u over the side of the tank down to the sump and the other side into the water at a shallow depth then use an aqua lifter pump to keep the siphion going if or when the water level drops below the end of the pipe in the water and then comes back up?

I think I understand what your saying. To be honest it sounds like it would work in theory. Its pretty much the same as an overflow but it just relies on a power head to get going.

ya kinda. its not really a power head more of a diaphram pump. the tank is in thg middle of my house and would rather just 1 pipe but am not in a position to get it drilled

A full syphon wont work. Look into a HOB overflow box.

Post a drawing of your idea please.

If what I understand you saying, no it won't work. BUt lets see a pic first.

First one would work only under certain circumstances. There would be big fluctuations in the water hight inside the tank. Also, you would have to hope that the aqualifter never failed or that it could ebven restart the flow once the siphon broke.

the second one is like many of the other overflows that have been made. Do a search for "DIY Overflow". You will come up with plenty of examples.
