GFCI and ULTRA- GROUND TITANIUM PROBE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
GFCIs are a very good idea. Ground probes are more of a myth then anything. If there is stray voltage in your tank caused by faulty equipment the ground probe will not remove it and will and electrical current to the mix.

Ground probs may work on salt water tanks as there is the thinking they can act much like a battery, not sure this would apply to freshwater.

I use a GFCI and earlier this year had a tank without it two pumps went bad and I got shocked so bad it put me on the ground now I have a titanium probe in there and no volts at all in the tank. I highly recommend a GFCI for any aquarium application.

So you using both now? Which GFCI do you use? Is it shockbuster?

Any Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) receptacle or breaker that is CSA or UL certified will provide protection from shock on your aquarium branch circuits (lights heaters, pumps, etc.);

I would not recommend any after market GFCI power bars unless they are also CSA or UL certified. Used in conjunction with a ground probe, the GFCI will trip as soon as the fault develops rather than when you put your hand in the tank or otherwise provide an alternate bond path for the circuit. The use of ground probes or current collectors is a much safer aproach.

Using single GFCI outlets is the way to go. A single GFCI on each appliance is a lot safer than a GFCI wall outlet for your fish. IF one appliance goes bad and pops the GFCI wall outlet, everything is dead including aeration and filtration. Single GFCI's will not allow this to happen.

Use a power strip lol

So how do i get 5 single GFCI plugs into wall outlet?

The goal is to have the GFCI outlet to be the first outlet in the circuit as it comes off of the breaker panel. Once that is done, you are good to go.
