That looks really dangerous. If the lights fall into the water, look out.

At least buy some glass to go over the tank. Measure the dimensions on the top, go to a glass shop, and get some glass lids. I did that and only paid $10 for glass lids.

It's worth it to me because I have HOB filters and it cuts down on the noise ALOT. Also, I keep my tanks in the mid 80s and the lids help to slow down water evaporation.
 
for a second i thought them 2 fish in the first photo were floating upside down. . . lol! im a bit drunk. sorry.

I have a sheet of the light coverings that offices usually put up. that weird kinda see through plastic stuff.
 
The plastic is probably going to warp, I did the same thing on a sump and over time it warped. It's a good temp solution though.
