Ghost Shrimp, African Dwarf Frog, and Kuhli Loach?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IMO you shouldn't get the loaches, and get more shrimp. And also, there are a bunch of different ghost shrimp, and some breed in fresh and some don't. However, the kind most often found in stores will breed in fresh.

Ghost shrimp might breed in fw, but they don't produce miniature versions of the adults... they have a plankton stage or something like that. In the aquarium it would be uncommon for the microorganism babies to survive until reaching their adult form. At least... that's my understanding of it.

The loaches might die if this a new tank... Kuhli loaches need to be kept in groups, and in a well-established tank.

Sounds like a cool combination anyway, though.

Skip shrimp n add like 2 more loaches. If u only get 2 they wont be very comfy since they like to be with their own kind. And to fathomer... Gohst shrimp indeed do breed in fw but many others require brackish... Many others

True, and with ghost shrimp being commonly used around the world im sure its all types of species we're talking about :)

Anyway, to the OP, keep us updated as you finish setting up the tank...

Well due to unexpected discounts I got a 20 gallon instead of a 10 gallon. I set it up yesterday, and currently am cycling. Hopefully I can get sand and plants by the end of the week. I have a improvised sponge filter. I took the tube of a gravel siphon, put a two dollar coarse foam pad on the bottom, and a powerhead that cycles 95 gallons and hour on top with a piece of cleaned pillow stuffing in the tube for the fine particles. I'll upload pictures soon hopefully.

Not to be contrarian here, but my vote would be to focus on a planted tank with a nice living carpet, a nice feature piece of driftwood and a variety of shrimp instead of the frog and loaches. I've got some beautiful red shrimp in a 10 gallon nano cube that I am using as a grow out with 300 FMs. They are all doing great and the shrimp are a lot more fun to watch than frogs that I have had in the past. IMO
