A friend has a 20 gal tank that's been set up since April. Its doing great with fish and ghost shrimp are doing great. She can't keep a snail alive though. She's got algae on the glass and they are pretty small so they can't be starving. For the longest time, she was stumped and yesterday, she saw some of the shrimp on top of a snail, eating it. The question is, did the snail die and shrimp get a meal or did the shrimp get hungry and kill the snail? Thanks!

Probably just died n their eating the dead. I use to think my snails were eating eachother but they just died and there cleaning up. And no I don't have assassin snails.

Lol @ assassin snails. I have those. Had to tape the lid shut.

so why are they dying then? There's food, nothing's outrageous aggressive, she gets then when they're tiny so they're not dying of old age, she treats prime and keeps an eye on the Params.... I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Not sure as long as she feeds her fish n water quality is good there really shouldn't b a problem, keeping snails is as easy as breeding guppies, just put em in water lol

Ghost shrimp could potentially attack snails. Ghosts could attack other shrimp even. They're a bit more aggressive than say, japonicas or little cherry red ones.

Ok. Good to know. Thanks. So keep an eye on the shrimp? If they die, go cherries. got it.

I've seen my ghost shrimp tear into snails. Then I watched a crayfish catch the shrimp. lol

I had a hard time getting snails established so I put in piles of lava rock that the shrimp couldn't get to. Now I have trumpet snails, apple snails and giant ram's horn apple snails all reproducing in the same tank...finally.
