I bought a black ghostknife fish yesterday, and was told he would be fine in my cichlid tank,in fact they had them in with convicts in the shop, anyway, I went to the shop today and when I returned my ghostknife was minus a tail,poor fella. I dont have much experience of cichlids and went on the shops advice. now , naturally I feel like **** about it and of course moved him immediatly to my gourami tank where he is having some r&r question is will his tail grow back and which tank should I keep him in?

I don't have much experience with BGKs but i'm getting one soon so i did a lot fo reading up on them on this forum and the same thing happened to someone else here and he said that he started to see the white part of the tail start to grow back. if you search the knifefish forum hard enough you should be able to find it. hope that helps
BGK's + cichlids = really bad idea I'de leave him in w/ the G's make sure hes got plenty of hide-spots though as even they can be aggressive on occasion. BGK's ime fall into the catagory of as long as it's not to small to eat, and won't harass it. Larger mellow fish and BGK's seem to be a good mix. as he gets bigger you may be able to mix w/ cichlids as he may be to big for them to bother trying. But I would hesitate to do it unless I had mellow Cichlids. The knife boards should also have alot of good info for you to take into account.
Naturally it will be a bit of a gamble to get the sizes right...
But I have raised BGKs along side Dempseys, Oscars, Severums, etc, etc, etc for many years...
