Hello all! Well i have finally brought home one of my dream fish. It is a 5 inch gold giant gourami. It is currently housed in a 120gal with the following

(1) silver arowana 12"
(2) florida/spotted gar 9-10"
(1) male chocolate cichlid 8"
(1) black belt cichlid 6"
(1) endli bichir 5"

I will soon be adding a group of 3 peacock bass once they arrive and i put some size on them. Once everybody outgrows this tank, they will be moving to a custom 1000+ gallon tank.

I have done alot of research on these giant gouramis but for some reason I just can't find good information on their eating habits through their gowth cycle.

If anyone has experience with these fish, I'd love some input! I need to know what they eat at each stage of their growth. Juvenile, subadult, and adult. Also how often.

Any and all help would be appreciated!

They eat anything, and everything. How big is the current tank?

Depending on your particular fish's personality, he could be the ONLY fish left, in a few months. Each one is different.

Mine, for example, killed everything overnight, when she hit 8 inches, and has a 300 gallon tank all to herself.

Others can be kept with other fish - but be prepared.

PS - my previous one was fine with my old Oscar - as I said, each one is definitely different.

Right away, I would worry about the arowana. The others, later.

well i must say, that's the first time i've heard of an overly aggressive GG. But everyone's experiences are different. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. the tank i bought it out of was a 600 gallon community tank. and by community, I mean mollies, angelfish, bichirs, brichardi cichlids, plecos, barbs, tetras.... pretty much everything. a very strange mix actually. but it was doing fine with everyone. the only difference now is that its tank mates are all bigger lol.

The aggression does not start until they are 6-8 inches. They do great in communities of all kinds, until then. And once they get that size, it's up to the individual fish.

Do keep us posted. If you search, you will see mine :)

yup, i agree. our last gg ate about anything. from pellets to crickets/nightcrawlers and green leaf vegetables(adult size). :) we had him in a 3 foot tank alone, which then to a 6foot tank.

yup, some common plecos and not anything else. my dad put a couple of tiger barbs once, then the next morning.....hahaha...quite a big belly he had. lol oh yeah, our gg was a red tail actually. :)
btw, nice tank setup. ure arowana and gars are beautiful. are u planning to keep them all in the same tank when they get bigger? and i would have to say, the gar might attack it or maybe eat it. O.O is ure gg feeding already?
