Giant Gourami gradually killing my fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
chances are he is not going to calm down.

aggressive is aggressive.

remove the fish he is beating up just means he beats up another.

thats usually how it works.

I had to keep my 20" one in isolation as it did the same thing yours did.

as it grew up, it just picked on a fish and attacked.

I would remove the fish that was getting attacked, and it would just attack another. it didn't help at all.

as long as he was bigger, he attacked. and at 20" in size, he was bigger than everything. yours will be the same as it gets big.

sorry to say, but you will probably have to move him.

good luck

ps I love your setup.

I've kept 4 or 5 ggs over the last several years. Every one of them turned aggressive at some point and I had to get rid of them. My latest albino gg has only shown mild aggression so I'm hoping he will work out longterm. I recently thinned out the stock and haven't seen him bother anyone since. They seem to like plenty of space to themselves.

GG's definatly go through aggressive phases, the saratoga and loaches should be fine, but everything else will more then likely get it's arae kicked. If you were to get more house for him, I'd go with a 15cm sooty grunter, and Mayr a 15cm mangrove Jack, they'll hold there own, and will be to quick for him.

normally he should calm down once he reaches 20-22" which wont be long in the future provided he gets a good diet and water, but then again at the rate yours going, you wont have any fish left except him by next week, maybe if you dont wanna lose him or the others, put a temporary divider in the tank, looks ugly but at least will stop him killing.

i had a 22" before, and he was bashed up by my crazy synspilum which was only 12".
one particular fish they hate so much is the oscar..... many will testify to this, i dont know whats the reason, but no oscars.

my gg will go for weeks as a big passive baby then one day i wake up to chewed fins ect on my rtc the other fish are always left alone
