Difficult to say, one thing to bare in mind is they do not grow to the tank like some fish, they just grow and grow.

Ours in in a heavily filtered 400 litre tank and has been in there for a year from 3.5'', I doubt I'll get another 12 months without a major tank upgrade.

Hope that helps, what size were you thinking?

84 being inches, oxford uk?

Yeah that will be ok but an adult will need more room down the line, plan ahead, I had planned an a house extension when we got ours to house the final tank, now it's not happened I may need to double the size of our main tank in a year or so, into the living room..... Sometimes you need to bite the bullet and accept that monster fish need more room, peeps buy them and grow them out, the true heros in the fish keeping world are the ones that keep them for life:)

yeh those dimensions are ok....giant gouramis need tons of space coz they grow large but they take forver, it will take probly around 5-8 years for a juvie to grow to max size.

Those dimensions should be enough. Tank mates really depend on the individual GG. Some can be really mean.

so those dimensions are big enough for life tank mates i was thinking of a clarias cat or giraffe cat is that tank [84x30x24] big enough

take forever to grow? I respectfully disagree :) my pink one went from 3 inches to 20 inches in 2 years..

they can grow very fast if you feed them lots.

a word of warning though: my fish was very agressive when it got huge. I had to keep him by himself..

it seems to be hit and miss with these guys - sometimes they are friendly, other times they can be nasty..
