take forever to grow? I respectfully disagree :) my pink one went from 3 inches to 20 inches in 2 years..

they can grow very fast if you feed them lots.

a word of warning though: my fish was very agressive when it got huge. I had to keep him by himself..

it seems to be hit and miss with these guys - sometimes they are friendly, other times they can be nasty..

Agreed on the growth, we've had ours for 11 months and it's grown nearly a foot and I agree with the other bits underneath as well:)

Anyone know anything about breeding these big creatures. I have just gotten some small ones and I always consider breeding any fish I raise as long as I can get males and females. How old d they have to be, are they bubble nesters, anyone with experience with these guys and breeding them? I am very curious and there is not much info out on the web on them.

Thank,
Jack

Not much info due to the massive amount of space needed, yes they are indeed bubble nesters.

Try getting an exodon and finding info on that on the net:D

THEY ARE REALLY INTERESTING FISH TO KEEP, GET ONE YOUR 7 FTER WILL BE FINE. MINE SEEMS TO HAVE MOOD SWINGS! HE'LL BE FINE FOR WEEKS THEN ONE DAY OUT OF THE BLUE HE'LL TAKE A DISLIKE TO ONE OF THE OSCARS I HAVE AND BULLY HIM, NEXT DAY HE'S FINE AGAIN! TRULY AMAZING FISH THOUGH......... LIKE I'VE SAID BEFORE IF YOU HAVEN'T A BIG TANK ITS A SHAME TO KEEP A GG, IF YOU HAVE GOT A BIG TANK IT'S A SHAME NOT TO!

giant gourami are by far my favorite fish, I just purchased a 9-10" red tail. He currently resides in my 180 with a larger bocourti, an equal size severum, some silver dollars and a lima shovelnose cat. Thay all get along great and love there veggies. We purchased another tank a few months ago, but have to wait for our addition to be finished. The new tank is 96"x36"x30", 450gal
