Giant gourami

If you had a flowerhorn or even a red tail GG people probably wouldnt even notice that fish besides saying what is that big ass ugly white fish over there.

I've had a tank full of colorful 10-12" Viejas, and while people were impressed, it never got the reaction that the GG does.
BTW, I'm not impressed with FH. My GG is full of personality and is like a dog. So, very rewarding!

I had 3 that lasted about a year (maybe a little longer) in a 150 gal and needed to be moved to larger quarters (a 300 gallon rubbermaid stock tank). They got quite testy with each other in the small (for their needs)tank. They started out as 3-4" juvie, and by years end were in the 18"-20" range.

You can't even keep one in a tank that size for life.
So....No.

Maybe you can keep like...1/3rd of a giant gourami.

No one has ever commented how ugly it is. They get completely giddy when I give them some fruits to hand feed it.

A lfs has an 18 inch giant gourami, doesn't look overly ugly though
