I think that your just not getting the right positioning in the other shots, they look somewhat washed out - flash tend to do that. In this shot however the fish wasn't hit directly by the flash at all, the shot looks to have been taken without a flash at all. There are no harsh lines or stark shadows or washed out tones.

ALL these shots are taken from the exact same place...I am sitting in my desk chair and the tank is 18" to my left. ALL pics are taken with flash, hood lights on and my lens at a 45 degree angle to the front of the tank. If you notice every shot has the heater or UFGF riser in it...it is only 10 gallons.
The only angle that changes is the fish to the lens and not that far...
What I was trying to show is he does change colors that the pics don't do justice showing...sometimes he is almost pink and other times he can be almost a black color over the top of his back...
C'mon...you mean a 20" fish 14" tall cannot fit into a 10 x 20 x 12? hey that's only a couple of inches sticking out of the water...
He's kinda growin' on me, and as much as I love my Arowanas and Cats, I do not want PCH to get eaten in the big tank...so we just eat and watch tv from the desk for now...I keep his water pristine, 82 degrees and his belly full...
As soon as this last one is big enough not to swim down an Arowana gollet, He's going into his 120 with the rest of the grow-out crew...
He's tough with fish his own size, but he'll be chum in the other tank...
I don't want him picking on the smaller Dats but they can hold their own with the big boys...
