GIANT gouramis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Seeing as George's tank is almost empty of tank mates, we thought we'd try and go down the gourami route. As George never has a go at the kisser in there we got 2 baby moonlights today. We've had them before and they got quite big, really quickly.

Fingers crossed everyone gets on, I get a pic up later when they've settled in.

Went to see the golden giant gouramis today... the LFS was open and, after a casual inquiry, the shop owner was willing to let me have 1 instead of a pair...

Went in front of the tank and stood there, staring at them for 10 minutes or so... they were quite small - about 4 inches. Quite pink... with black eyes...

In a tank nearby, there was a 12 inch RTGG. It wasn't on sale - it belonged to the shop owner who was keeping it there as his tank at home had cracked and he was getting another one made.

I thanked the guy for his help and went out.

I want a red-tail giant gourami. Not a golden one. I'll wait. We'll see what happens first: either I'll eventually stop wanting one or I'll finally get one.

I don't think the moonlights are going to last long:(

Why?

If you want a placid Giant Gourami, Red Tail GG is the one. Mine is 15 inch in a 30 gallon tank with an albino pleco as a tankmate. Pink and golden GG can be quite aggressive towards other fish and also people.

This is my Red Tail GG.

Hes very nice but get him a bigger tank, that 30gal must be damging him.

30 gal... hmmm... what would be the LxBxH size?

George has taken offense to their presence, however he's chilled out a bit now and they are hiding in the bogwood. I think he's damaged his lip I'm waiting for the lights to come on to check.

It does sound a little on the small size, maybe he's got some sort of mad filtration setup that compensates for the smaller tank but I'd be inclined to locate a larger tank for it.

He is doing okay. The 30 gallon tank look small for him because I take the picture at a close range. However, I'm planning of moving him to a 75 gallon tank 1 year down the road.
