I would like to learn more about your 3 tiers OHF. Maybe later I will post a few picture of my tank and the OHF for you to give comments and suggestions on how should I go to have the 3 tiers OHF.
I'll be waiting for your pictures. :)

On the GG, I dont think my RTGG can be house toghether with the Golden GG. My RTGG is aggressive towards other fish, maybe because I don't mix him with other fish except a pleco when raising him from small. If I want to mix the RTGG with the Golden GG, I will follow your suggestion to put a divider (non-transparent). Anyway thanks for the suggestion.
Well, just house in only one GG - the biggest. Everything else applies though - bare bottom, 80% water change on a weekly basis. Also put your powerhead very low - touching the bottom so that it sucks all the poop. You will also have to clean the top 2 tiers on a weekly basis - these will contain the sponge and floss and will have to be cleaned often so as to remove all the trapped material. This should ensure that there is relatively low build-up of decaying organic matter.

You could also add a big sponge filter (driven by a powerful air pump). This should be for additional mechanical and biological filtration. Just squeeze the sponge a few times in the water that you have removed from your tank once a week. This should clean it while not destroying any bacteria population.

;) Just do the best you can with what you have...

Loulou,

I will post my reply on your thread title of " Good Canister Filter available in Malaysia" http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95025.

I
'm afraid that we might go out of topic because this thread is about Giant Gourami.

Anyway back to the gg's ;)

All is well George continues to ignore the moonlights, should have got a few more at that price :irked:

Sorry Tequila, I've only got around to watching this today.
Looks like it will heal fine. It is a weird sight seeing so many gg's in one tank and least they get on some of the time.

I can't remember if I've asked this before so apologies if I have...
How did you end up with all these red tails?

No I don't think you ever asked before.... Answer: same way most ppl got theres bought them at my local pet/aquarium shop, they'll get me most anything I ask for, including the trio of Arapiamas I asked about last year. But then the offer of the free pre-drilled 500G tank went south along with a few other rare odd balls so I didn't get them. Just as well, I sometimes get involved way too fast with things I shouldn't.

On another note I would just like to say to those ppl in thread WOW, OMG, WTF 80% water change....are you serious?:WHOA: I have as anyone can see 4 RTGG 9-15 inch Monsters, plus another 12-15 Misc fish that I feed like 2-3 times per day (except when I'm on vacation) I don't do more than like 40G water change 3 - 4 times per month. (I think that if I ever had to do a 80% water change, that I would just drain the whole tank and move on too something else).

OMFG it's 3:45AM and I gotta get up and go to BASS PRO in the morning, though I'm not too sure why since it's like FREEZING in Florida tonight, Can't believe I run off to Florida for a quik fishing trip and I get here and it's almost as cold as it is back in NY. I'm going to sleep all.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.

I'm not one to go for massive water changes on the gg tank either, as it's bare bottom, I only clean the debris out about once a week. It's a, bare with me why I convert English to US g

zzzzzzzzzzzzz
zzzzzzzzzzzzz
zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Right, start again, it's a 115g tank and I change approx 12-18g a week which is about a 15%-18% change a week, this takes about 15 minutes to do. Times that by roughly 4 weeks in a month = 60%-72% a month water change.
The fish are happy and the nitrates hover around 0% this is because of 2 things:
1. Anything George and his companions don't eat get moped up by the plecs.
2. There is about 3 times more filtration on the tank as the standard setup that it comes with it.
3. I know I only said 2 but I keep discus in another tank as well and do water changes most days, hence why I do less changes on the gg tank.

It's the old rule of the larger the tank is the easier it is too maintain good water parameters.

If your thinking of getting a gg, get a large tank, add a ton of filtration and save yourselves a lot of headaches.

Tequila, if it makes you feel any better, I was going pike fishing this weekend but we've got snow and the works over here so I'm sure the pike will wait a week, hope you catch the bass

Missed that bit

Wow If you though the rtgg's were giving you headaches, I'm guessing you've already read johnptc's 2400g tank, new 5000g and 5000g to 1000g thread makes me thankful we've only got gg's ;)

Hang on a minute, if I just convert my whole living room and extend our house then I could.......

Yeah well it would have been alot easier to get rid of the Ara's than the RTGG. Actually it would even have been profitable, too rear them for a year or two and then sell them, heck I would have been able to sell them too importes if I needed too, plus they taste quite well - when prepared correctly - (I kid you not). There far more wicked looking, which is enough of a reason to keep them, without complaint. Also they don't turn into huge monsters over night, like ppl would like you to believe. Did you ever notice that whatever is either super hard to keep or grows too unbelievable sizes or can kill you are the easiest and cheapest things too acquire. Why is that?

That's so very true! Here baby pacus are sold for £1 (or $3) each. I've seen people buy 5 to make a nice shoal in their 20 gal... :screwy:

Happy New Year.

All is well here, Gussy got a whole bunch of strawberries for Christmas; Santa was fresh out of 300 gallon tanks. Maybe I'll get lucky and the Easter Bunny have one (hey- we're talking about a giant invisable rabbit that hides colored chicken eggs- anything's possible).

For the last week Mr Grumpy Fish has been more grumpy than usual. Biting at the tank when someone's nearby is normal, but he's been splashing water out every now and then, and while I was dropping in some grapes the other day, he made a halfhearted attempt at doing another carpet dance. Maybe Gussy thought the little grapes were paratroopers or aliens coming to take over? Either way, he ate them.

Good to see there are some newcomers here, as well as the standbys.
