Giant Mekong?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't have any space for any type of panga species, but I will get it and try to save it for a good ID! :)

If you were in the USA I would say that after you doctored it up I'd get it from ya, but looks like you're in Canada. maybe if you get it healthy again you can resell it for more than what you paid for it. :)

It is thin but not deathly thin yet to my eye. The snout appears banged up good. The obvious paleness/transparency may be stress or not.

I don't have a DSLR camera, so it's hard for me to get a good shot at it.

My toppest priority at the moment is to get his eye clear up :D

If it turns out to be an unique panga, you can have him for free as long as you can provide a good home :)

Cloudy/damaged eye(s) often accompany smashed snouts. Strive to give him the best water you can with as frequent WCs as possible and feasible and let's hope that secondary infection does not onset... unless it is it already.

If it doesn't improve and the fish feeds, I'd try to give him a prophylactic dose of bi-furan (gram-positive antibiotic - a mix of nitrofurazone and furazolidone) and if that does not work, then a tetracycline med (gram-negative antibiotic).

Wow that is one messed up fish. try what TBTB says. I bet that it will be quit the looker once healed up and healthy again!!! :) As he eludes a secondary infection is bad and can kill your fish quickly. If the infection is too bad the fish may not even eat.

seeing the new shots it looks like it could very well be a stunted/very sick ID shark. Head still reminds me of Pangasius pangasius also though. Would still love to see it healthy :)

I don't know about the medicine part, because I got a Tig in there. He's getting the best water quality that I can provide and the tank got a UV system.

It's not eating right now

I know, I know, I should quarantine and separate the fish, but it either goes to my Tig's tank or my Koi's tank or my 29G tank :O

Althou it looks small in the picture, it's already 8" long

Like I said before, I don't have the proper housing for a panga :irked: Let's hope for the best for him

You know as well as anyone that has kept a fish that it might not eat for a while after switching tanks. :) so at this point just a waiting game. i am actually happy to see a fish in such condition survive a move. They can bounce back. I've doctored some IDs that were in similar conditions, but maybe not quite as bad. Hope you didn't pay too much. I have convinced lfs to give me fish in those conditions for almost free to save them the money on having to treat it lol.

What do you guys think of this. is this a giant mekong catfish? during the day the colour look dark brownish grey. i took this shot at night. and the fish is 3-4 months old approx 24cm
