I will be getting my 500 gallon tank this Sunday, and I'm thinking I would like to get one of these guys in it. I've never kept one and will take any tips on keeping them, but my biggest question is what experience people have had keeping them with SA/CA Cichlids. Thanks in advance.

with my RTGG he is only aggressive with my tinfoil barbs but with the bp's,severium, bichir,BGK,pleco he ignores.i held a silver aro for the LFS for a month and he submissive to it and they was the same length.he is one of my most easy to care for and biggest personality.

I think it depends on individual personality. I got my rtgg at 3.5 inches eight months ago. Mixed him right away with my silver aro, green terror, and some other fishes but didn't notice any aggression between them. Right now he's in a tank with 2 adult oscars and the rest of the gang, living peacefully. Maybe I'm just lucky, just sharing my experience.

I got mine as a 3" juvenile. Had hime with bichirs until he was about 6-8". Put him in my 310gal with Dat, aro, oscars, knives, pim catfish. and they were fine.

Until.......he hit about the foot mark then he got super cranky. Would go after any fish with red in them or that were not fast swimmers. Killed the 2 oscars and was constantly scraping with the other fish.

I then moved him to 145gal with cichlids I'm growing out. He did not kill them but constantly went for them. after much consideration, he got the 310gal to share with yellow labs as he can't catch them.

In my experience, great fish if you have the space. Become very tame, owner recognition and interaction, beautiful fish. But can be super messy and become aggressive and rather belligerent.
