Giant Snakehead Worries

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've read that they are quite sensitive to water, that's why I change it once every 2 weeks. Maybe it's more than that so I'll try and look up some sort of water cleanser or something.

I don't have the money to spend like that and I have to work hard for whatever money I get, so it's not really that easy to say and to call my tank a joke. I will upgrade my tank soon.
We all work for money. I'm not rich either. During the day, I'm a teacher, which amounts to very little money. I would love to keep a huge shark tank, but I don't because I don't have money for a 10,000 gallon tank. That's no excuse.

Never said it was an excuse. I already mentioned I'm upgrading my tank. I don't see the point in people telling me I need a bigger tank when I've already said I'm getting one soon or when people have already told me this. All I want is some help without people telling me my equipment is a joke. It's not exactly a lovely feeling. You might not have meant it in an offensive way, but that's how it felt.

How about a shovel & lotsa elbow grease?

Dig a pond in your backyard, line it with lime, cover it with pond liners, fill with water, decorate with a few aqua plants... And slosh the bloody Snakey over. In about a month or probably less, you'll see a big difference in size & attitude with your Snakey. You can test by popping in a couple of baitfish.

Is it just me or does a 10 to 20% water change every two weeks sound like not nearly enough?

If you are determining your water changes soley on the visual looks of the water then chances are thats the problem.

You could have crazy high or low PH, lethal levels of ammonia and nitrite, and the water "look" quite good.

Do you have a test kit?
What is the:
PH
Ammonia
NitrIte
NitrAte

Do you have city water or well?
What conditioners are you using with the water changes?

Now that sounds like a pretty simple idea. One I could use the exercise and two I could build it as big as I want. The only problem is that I live in a sort of suburban housing scheme where the houses are a bit close together. There's plenty of space don't get me wrong, but I don't wanna wake up the next day and find out my neighbors nickec my fish for their breakfast (Since everyone is keen on eating giant Snakeheads here =S). Cheers for the idea though, I might do that if I can find a way to keep me Snakeheads safe.

Not enough? Alrighty, how about 25% change weekly like Natural Born Killer? If that's enough of course =P Test kits haven't come in stock yet at the local fish shops and if they do have them they get finished pretty quickly. But what are the desired parameters so I know when I get a test kit this coming Thursday? I would like to know so I can do it straight away when I get my kit. My water comes from a huge tank that the government supplies to houses like mine, but I was told to add a bit of salt to the water to disinfect it or something along those lines. I've got something called NovAqua as a conditioner. Thanks for helping by the way.
