nice SAL Earl, :) you inspire me to make a 180 full of bichir with red sand :) and overstock my future 480 or 750 maybe red mix sand too :)

I recommend to tone up the bichirs in red sand for 2 months then later add a tan sand with lil' black and brown mix to make it look natural. It what I did to my tank now. Now the red is not really visible too much now.

So my sand is now mix of
100 lbs tan
80 lbs red
40 lbs black
20 lbs brown

Thanks everyone!

Earl,im thinking bout adding sand into my 150 :) where my bigger bichirs reside but my water might be dirtier with sand wouldnt it?like it wont be as clean as before

Mine is crystal clear with sand. It actually get debris floating around with no substrates. The substartes traps the debris. I know it's easy to clean bare bottom tank but debris keep appearing within days especially after feeding where with substrates that it takes weeks for the debris to show up and also about time to water change which is good. That why I don't like bare bottom. With bare bottom I have to vacuum almost daily too and it bothers my fish.
