I'd settle for some of those killer humbolt squid from off Baja, 70+ lbs and they eat sharks.

Those are very cool squid indeed. Supposedly they aren't as "killer" as people have been led to believe. I watched a big long special on them a couple of weeks ago. Mostly they are only in super aggressive mode when they are being fished and there is carnage all around them. But if you go visit them in more peaceful waters where they aren't being fished they are really quite peaceful and very intelligent. They definitely need to be studied more. Very cool animal...

Deep sea squid often use urea as floatation control so you probably would not like the giant's taste.
Northern pike are only aggressive when hunting, and the little arrow squid are mellow to until breeding time or feeding time, then they are lethal little killers.
Don't get me wrong as to the Humbolts, I admire them and realize they are competitive shoaling carnivores with large appetites, they go from eggs to senility in 3 years from what I read and that is not much time to get that big.
I fully agree that they need further study. I still would get a little nervous to find myself at night swimming amongst a feeding shoal.

Squid are skittish, but definitely deadly when it's hunting/feeding time. Cuttlefish is probably more interesting in the fisht ank, than the squid or octopus. I fished giant squids during long range trips, and the little 3 footers put up a good fight. I made a mistake of taking it's head out of the water and got five gallons of blank ink right on my face, including the eyes. It burnt and itched like crazy!
