"That huge one could probably take off one's hand!" HAHAHAHA Try half of your body in one bite!!! The head on that thing has to be around 3' wide!!!!!
bwahahahah! what makes you think it has a 3' head?!?!?!?!

anyways, awesome seeing the other yaengtze soft shell. personally i think they should transport the last 4 over to america and put them in one facility where their crappy diet can be changed so they lay fertile eggs for once.

the capture was for a vet check concerning the cuts on its head
I wish the last 4 of these guys would be put together in a good, experienced breeding facility
I'm guessing this is one of the almost extinct giant soft shells then? Last I heard there were only 2 left, that's cool if they found a couple more. Hopefully they can get these turtles breeding and save the species

There are several things going on here. Some taxonomists actually think this particular turtle is the last one of yet another species of giant softshell turtle closelly related to the yangtzes. The head markings are indeed different. As for bringing it to America, bad idea, you would have to start the breeding effort allmost from square one and old animals dont travel well. They however should without a doubth be housed in the same facility (but not together!), they need to be available to each other for breeding efforts. Im however very fearfull for the future of this species, we need babys FAST. If somehow we cant understand whats missing, that would mean very bad news.

They finally caught it, they were supposed to ship it over to me last month! Freight was costly, but I think it'll be worth it :)
