Gila Monster

First, my answer....

If any of you want to see some very pretty gilas, visit the michigan reptile show. It's near Detroit. A man there had very nice gilas, safely contaned. It's the closest I'd ever been to one!

Second, the rant....

How experienced is experienced??? These guys pack strong hemotoxic venom. They might be "tame", but it isn't about if you make a mistake.....it is about when!

I have a rearfang and no matter how careful you are, mistakes happen. I've been grazed by a fang once and I am VERY careful. It only took one second for her to decide to spin around while I was spot-cleaning her tank. Take it from one who got a venomous sent to her by mistake and got thrown into the world of danger as a child....make sure you are really ready, can get permits, have special insurance, and can afford your own antivemon and medical care.

NOW, having said that, high price is good for these guys. They must be captive bred and permitted, and breeding venomous is no cakewalk

gilas are beautiful ive handled them my buddys dad has a few that he breeds they are generally tame unless you poke them with the hook then they get mad but hots are no joke not for amatuers that for sure ive nearly been tagged by my gaboon a few times its almost not worth it i dont do nothing with any of my hots unless both of my friends are there

Ive kept gilas in the past. Being born and raised in AZ your going to see one sooner or later. They are quite a sight and a most unusual reptile. If your planning on keeping one make certain you read up on gilas and use extreme caution when handling them. They are rather shy animals but dont be fooled. They are highly venemous and have an extremely powerful bite for its size. Experienced or not, ****s going to hurt.

if a gils bites you once your fine, cause the venome doesnt enter its mouth until it starts to chomp and chew. they do not have hollow fangs like snakes.

btw, let everyone to their own, if he wants to talk like that let him, its just a reason to look down on him.
