Gill curl cutting.

I think small tanks, and the aro's swimming back wards is a culprit for the cause as well. Prolly a mix of a few things.

I cut all the soft membrane off, if the gill curl comes back then i will cut the plate as you say.

It's tank is big enough, it did go through a stage of sitting on the bottom. I saw it's gill membrane start to curl in a day, right after a water change, (with aged treated water).
But yes i agree probably a whole load of reasons why gill curl can occur.
 
Whoaaaaaa bro, i did not realize your aro got gill curl - musta missed the post.

any updates? i am lucky that none of my aros are afflicted with this condition
 
Hawaiianfishkee no the curl did or has not come back as it was only the soft membrane i cut off. It wasn't the hard plate, for that I've learnt you need to make relief cuts horizontally, about 1/2 to 1 cm long depending on how bad it is. I not sure whether the membrane grows back and when i look at pictures of other fish my fish seems to have or had small membrane.
Choychik as above mate. I'm still convinced it was cold water on a change that did it. It started to show about an hour after a water change. I tried a power head but it didn't go back. Needless to say i have a power head in there all the time now. The fish likes to play in it. It floats no it's belly is hit by the current and it also rides the current which is cool.
 
It just suddenly got cold here yesterday (after rain) ... i suppose i better take care during water changes (to heat up water a bit first)
