Gill Problem?

My arowana's gill membrane (the edge of the soft part) is dark colored on both sides.. Is this normal?
At first I thought he was sick or something but after 2 months in my tank, the color remains the same..
The water parameter is fine and he's eating well..
If the color is not normal, is it wise to cut it off and let it grow back? (for cosmetic purpose)

I don't think I would worry about it. Just keep an eye on it and if it starts to curl then you might start thinking about cures. Cutting would be my last option
