I have not seen them in the hobby for so long. The last time and the first time I saw sone when I was in Japan.
P. amphibius is the rarest and most difficult to obtain of the lungfishes which makes

Impossible to find. You see them listed every now and then but they are either extrmely expensive or turn out to be annectens.
the gilled African lungfish (GAL) is indeed the rarest lungfish species in the hobby right now. the AUL is more expensive as it is a protected species as well as costs associated with captive breeding, rearing, and licensing.
the GAL is more frequently seen in east Asia, but is still relatively rare out there. i have not seen another GAL in the US since the one i had imported back in 2004. that is the specimen pictured on primitivefishes.com. unfortunately the fish eventually got sick with a type of bloat condition (which they are apparently more susceptible to than other lungfishes) and eventually died.
great fish though, and relatively active too. these are the smallest species of lungfish, and therefore (in terms of tank requirements) the most appropriate for home aquaria. they are still aggressive like other African lungs though.--
