Oregon, it's part of 'Murica!
I am looking at an about 6" female parrot on craigslist for $20 which is a great price. They sent me a couple pics but am not sure if its her gills or a parasite. If its parasites how would I treat. I have seen this on larger parrots but you never know.

maby gill curl?

I would treat with clout or jungle parasite clear. Jungle does not mess with your water parameters but clout is stronger and will.

Yeah that looks to be a gill parasite. Personally I wouldn't use any brand name parasite cure, because copper works great for stuff like this. I treated something similar a while ago in a big goldfish and it went away right quick with copper. (copper sulfate like those ich cures, small amounts kill most little animals like that) It is probably the main ingredient in those otc cures anyways

Mardel Coppersafe has some of the worst reviews from experienced hobbyists. It kills your benefitial bacteria. Stays in the water for up to a month because carbon wont take it out, and the threshold between toxic to fish and toxic to parasites is very slim.

Ive seen this condition before. Its probably just a birth defend because it is a parrot, But i have seen fish in water that has a low oxygen level, The gills will enlarge and look rather unpleasent. Only use meds if you 100% positively know what your dealing with.

No it doesn't kill you bacteria, I have been using it for over a year now and never had any spikes. And it does take care of ich. You have been saying this for awhile but you probably never have used it. It works and I have never lost a fish to it aside from a Pictus but it had a very severe case of ich.

As for the parrot I have been told you was kept in a 29 gallon with other fish for over a year so it is possible that the tank has low oxygen. I talked to a couple other people that have large parrots and they say its the gills and not parasites.

Of course Ive never used it. My fish dont get sick anymore.
Plus I do research on all products I put in my tank prior. I would use coppersafe if I had cryptocaryon, a marine ick-like protozoa.
If you did research, you would see that it does kill off denitrifying bacteria. A lot of people complain of ammonia spike afterwards, then bacterial blooms. Also PH levels have a huge impact on how the copper reacts, acidic water makes copper much more potent. Every med has its pros and cons, And coppersafe will work under the right conditions, but due to the unpredictablity of the product, I personally wouldnt risk my stock. Id use a much safer product like malachite green. Thats after Id try hyposalinity.
