i have just come into buying a 22o gallon tank, which happens to include a 18in. giraffe catfish, it is elready eating shrimp pellets and is a gorgeous fish, but any help with what to feed, and the temperment of these fish/tankmates would be greatly appreciated, as i have never kept one before. thank you

it cost me $1000 for: the tank, stand, light, a 200 watt heater, the fx5 fluval canister filter, gravel, about 20 various rocks mostly slate, a decent piece of driftwood, and the fish ( the giraffe cat, a 10in lima shovelnose, 2 common plecos, and a good lookin female convict who i've placed into another tank)..... the only thing i'm gonna have to do is get the covers for the top as they were broken, because i already had a spare heater to use.

Great fish!! These guys will usually take any sort of frozen/prepared foods. Getting them on a pellet diet is usually best because it's much cheaper, easier, and gives the fish a very high quality varied diet.

As far as temperment goes, you couldn't ask for a better behaved monster cat. They are very sociable cats and will tolerate anything that they can't eat.

That's a heck of a deal...you'll have to post some pics.

wats a giraffe that size worth?

It's worth quite a bit...the lfs near me had a 10" giraffe cat for $150, so your guy is definitely worth more than $200.

Nice pickup!! :D

Nice looking cat but very thin for his size. It won't take long to fatten him up as they have very large appetites. In general giraffes are well mannered but my giraffe can be very aggressive towards a larger niger cat as well as my IDs and pacu. The chasing is normally food related but sometimes out of the blue he will aggressively go after someone.

thank you for the input, and i just got it a day ago so i haven't had a chance to get it it bulked up, as the previous owner only occasionally gave it feeders and put flake in the tank. so it prolly didn't eat well very often

I feed a variety of sinking pellets from Kens fish as well as occasional shrimp pellets. He eats like there is no tomorrow.
