they are not very active right? 3 feet wide is def. enough its just the 5 feet long thats the problem. im not sure what people will recommend but 2' or so in that 5 footer especially if he isnt active.

I have to agree with KNH. My 20" was quite active often sifting through the sand and often coming up to the front of the tank to beg for food or interact with whoever was there.
i would say that 24" will be too big for that tank. you will need something like 8x3 for fullgrown. i have a 23-24" that i got from another member and it likes to swim around in my 8x8, so i would def. say a 5x3 is way too small for it.
well once he gets around that size and i dont have a bigger tank by then it will be up for grabs.
thats not a good way to go about things. you shouldnt get a fish unless you can keep it yourself for the life of the fish. relying on other peoples generosity doesnt always get you very far. this is why we have non native species swimming around in our waterways and our government is trying to ban all non native species. because people get pets they cant logically keep for the life of the pet and they let it go when no one will take care of it for them. (im not saying you personally would release the fish into the wild im just saying that it gets done all too often.)
well im hopping to get something over 300 gal some what like my 200 but longer or maybe a good sized pond and im not relying on any one at all to take him when he gets to large for me to house im more likely going to keep him for life I still have a huge pond tub thing I used to keep a 4.5' cayman alligator in thats got to be close to 350-400 gal that I can always us, and iv herd the owners of the lfs tell customers to just throw their fish in a river or pond or something if he wont take it if he know they cant sell it or make any money off of it so I wouldnt say its just people who get them its more of the people who sell them as well.
did you speak up and say something when you heard the guy tell them that? did you even pull the guy to the side and let him know how it affects his business? how it will be the end of his business and he will be bankrupt if the current bill passes?
no really didnt think of it at the time it was way before they started threads on hear about the bill when i first learned of it. I dont go their to often any more he doesnt seem to care to much any more he seems to be all about money now compared to the first owners his wife is nothing like him.
