I dont know about legal in California as iam from the U.K but i do know Giraffe cats can get to over 2ft in length some monster ones can even reach over the 3ft mark with girth to match i have one myself over 20in long.

Giraffe cats can grow up to 36" in captivity,this I know as I have seen on that size.Ours are about 2 years old and one is hitting 2 ft with the other 20".Although labeled as a peaceful cat they can be nasty with tankmates,causing nasty flesh wounds and often making other tankmates ram into sides or top with constant niggling away at them.My responsibility to look after them but out of the many large cats we keep not one I would replace.Having said that many are gentle,just depends on individual.
