Giraffe VS O.niger

Megaladoras Uranoscopus (irwini) would be good for that tank. They only grow to about 27" so realistically 20-24 in captivity. They are very slow growers, active at night and hide during the day. Kind of like a pet rock with a night life. Vulture won't work in that tank since they are so active and you will have the same problem you were having with the Achara because the whiskers grow so long. Juruensis are beautiful but high maintenence imo. They really don't hunt food and they are not a clean up cat

irwini cats look insanely boring and i could see that with the vulture because they are like big pictus cats. how are juruense high maintenance?

I think the Megaladoras looks much better than those other two.

You have to basically spot feed juruensis. They're not very good hunters ime and they're boring. They alternate between resting and swimming in front of a powerhead and eating smaller fish

bummer. unless anyone else has any suggestions i think i may just go with rays. it seems most of the cool catfish that are interactive and not shy get too big.

I think you would enjoy a ray. There are a couple smaller species that should be ok in a 180. FYI my male marble is almost 4 yrs old and still only maybe 11" across.

Their are plenty of other suggestions for cats that'd be comfortable in your tank in my opinion and would comm' well.

In the Doradidaes, Rhinodoras dorbignyi makes a good small(11 inches approx.) alternative to a Meg or Oxy and have the added benefit of being more active and in my opinion more attractive. Though I will admit you don't see them all too often for sale. Still Jeff Rapps and I think Wes have had them from time to time as did Rich(Infinite Aquatics which is where I had gotten mine) but he's been out of the vendor game as far as I know for awhile. http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=1504

In the Pimelodidaes, Pimelodus ornatus is another good alternative to the larger Juruense and Tigrinum. These guys max out at 11 inches approx. are very active especially when kept in groups and are readily available from quite a few sources. One of the most under appreciated cats out there in my opinion especially when you consider their personable demeanor.

I could go on but I'll leave at these two, if they don't strike you I'll throw some more suggestions at you.

if a catfish doesn't work, rays, polys, and maybe a wolf would be pretty awesome.

Thanks for the suggestions and info! they look cool. I'll check out ornatus. The only problem I can see in the future is my clown knife outgrowing and eating them. but they seem like cool cats. Right now I'm starting a small school of limas and I would like to eventually get 4 for my tank but I'd be worried if they turn out to be elongates(which is most likely) and the clown will beat them up or eat them.
