She want to get a 55gal tank for frogs and newts. I was thinking she needs fish in there and I wanted some ideas. I wanted to get a dino eel for it but I dont know if they will eat frog or newts. I was also looking at needle fish because they look cool. Anyways Im going to set it up about half full and put some land area in there with lots of plants. It should have about 15-20gal of water for swimming space, its a 55gal tall. Any ideas???

Jason

P.S. dont empty a tank or they will take it from you!! J/K she is taking my 55 and we are going to buy a 90gal with taxes.

It is not easy to keep fish and frogs together, they eat each other as do many newts.
Xenentodons love small frogs and get too large for a tank that size, they need lots of surface area and prefer slightly brackish water. Not a good choice for an amphibian tank. Thy full bodied nonpredatory fish like a honey gourami.

Aye, gouramis, larger tetras, dwarf cicchlids..stuff like that. Dwarf Crenicichla would work perfectly! :D Crenicichla regani or compressiceps. Btw..where in Colorado are you located? There are quite a few members there that have some killer set ups that could probably personally help you out...i be friends wit most of them as well, so could put in a good word for yaz!

I live in Fort Collins. I was hopin to get some thing not common to put with frogs and newts. If you have pics of the fish you recomend that would be helpful since I dont know all there names.

Thanks
Jason

I've got friends in Loveland...and Mtn. Pike and cichlidmonster live close by...so your right in the hot spot. How do you like the LFS there in Ft. Collins? I wanted to check them out but never had the time when i was visiting. Anywho....

newts and frogs? Those are fish food.

I think it could be done in a heavily planted tank, and if you use alot of guppies along with your desired fish, maybe the newts will go for the easily caught breeding guppies.

"dino eel"-poly
"needle fish"-longnose gar/striped pike C.
am i right boys?

Get the dwarf frogs and firebelly newts. The dwarf frogs are very small and the newts stay at 2-3". You could also do some fish like gouramis that are odd body shapes and hard to eat. Also IMO the fish should be atleast the size of the newts.
