Well...i think im finally giving up :( Ive been searching for several months for a native sunfish, known as the Orange Spotted Sunfish. Ive looked high and low, i know they exist as there are pics and threads about them, but Nobody can tell me where i can beg, borrow, or otherwise, aquire one by purchase, trade etc. So after much time wasted, i am giving up. So now just to rub salt in the wound, i would expect everyone here who owns these fish, probably by the shoal, to send me your pics, telling me how great they are, and how easily you came by them.

I might be able to help you.
I have so far 2 sunfish their still very young so i cant really tell what kind they are but one seems like a pumkinseed or possibly a orange spotted sunfish(but without the orange breast)(dont know how they look when young) If you want i could possibly get pumkinseeds because i think they have them in the pond, not 100% but sure seems like them, as for the orange spotted sunfish, ill keep an eye out for them but for now mine are young and its really really hard to catch them in the winder, i swore i almost lost my toes just getting these two, my toes doubled in size(swelling) so i got to be carefull lol. O and they not that great THEY are freakin eating ALL my pants, its getting me mad, and are a pain to get on new foods, just got them on flakes!!!!Altho i have to admit they are REALLY hardy!

O and does anyone have a good link to help identfying the sunfish? Also would love to see some pics:grinno:

O i forgot to add in the summer its way different i just pop a net into the water for a few seconds and i come up with like 10, they are really abundant were i go, there are also catfish there!

Oki i just took pics and got some old ones, for some reason they look more like a orange spotted sunfish more when i first got them compared to when i put them in the tank. The first pics i actually thought the fish was dead thats why it was on a rock, but i later found out he was just very very very still, or possibly hibernating, but didnt know they did that.

This site has it but I don't think they have them available right now but you could email them and ask if they are going to have in the future.

Looking at NotoriousSway's link I can see why you want some. Very nice looking fish. Congrats on your score...I'm glad I kept you motivated with your own motto hahaha.
