i have a 3 foot tank but 1.5 by 1.5 tank. it has had the bottom piece of glass smashed.

i have a peice of acrylic 10mm thick sitting here, could i cut it to size and use that fro the base instead of glass ?? rest of tank is only 6 mm glass.

I doubt it, i'm pritty sure silicon doesn't stick to acrylic like it does glass

:iagree: :iagree:

wont work get a piece of glass

i reckon it might work, only coz it's the base and not a side. i might go get the lexan cut to size and fill it in the shed for a bit. that way if it fails no harm.

i can see where your coming from if it was a side but being the base surely it might ??

I would say the chances of sucess are "slim" and "none". The modulus of 4mm acrylic is probably about 1/10 th that of 6mm glass. So the acrylic will deform much more than the glass under a load. The "slim" chance of working is if the bond is very strong and holds the acrylic ; Think of it as rubber held in the glass frame.

ive used silicone on acrylic i rekon give it a try

true that acrylic will deform under abit of a load, but if the base is well supported and and it's 10-12 mm thick acrylic not 4mm i think it might just work. i probably will start on it tonight after work.

I thought it would work. I ended up with 20 gallons of water all over my floor last month. Glass to glass not plexi!
