I am considering purchasing a 300 gallon tank (96 x 24 x 31) from Glass Cages. I would like to hear from anyone that has owned a Glass Cages tank and what they thought about it. Especially if it is a larger tank.

give it a google. reef central and other sites have a lot of stories. i have two glasscages tanks, and i am not really thrilled with them. thrilled with my fish, yes, but not the tanks. one is a 50g with overflow. the plastic trim around the inner edges of the tank is very strange, and makes it difficult to use HOBs (i stopped using a sump because the bulkhead gasket leaked after taking it apart and moving the tank).

I also have a 150g from them. Instead of having a solid rim all around the tank, there are gaps in the back of the tank to put HOBs in. This means that if something happens, like the front of the tank gets huge scratch on it somehow, I can never turn the tank around and view it from the other side. This is okay to an extent, except. . . these cut-outs are not wide enough to accomodate an Emperor 400. Which is what i planned on using for this tank. Yes, I know in hindsight that I should have double-checked the measurements and made sure the filters would fit (I bought them a couple months before tank delivery) but I had assumed that the tank openings would be compatible with such a common filter brand. Even if the trim had been solid so the front and back looked the same, a HOB filter still would not have fit on the tank.

Silicone job is messy on both tanks.

i got a 125 wide and am happy with it. but they do have a reinfocement on the front but i think it looks good. i'm not sure about the issue of 400's not fitting i have 2 on mine.

I was going to buy from them, but I soon decided to spend the 1000+ in shipping on another tank. I was going to get a 300+ but have settled for 2x 210 from my lfs...(all glass) @750 a piece much much better deal and I can spend the savings on setting up...:)

Thanks for the comments, I have never seen one in person, just on their website. My LFS starts getting really high prices for anything over about 55g. Petsmart is 110 miles away and I am not that thrilled with their quality. My gut feel tells me to get a large perfecto or oceanic.

If I was ballin I would do an oceanic...I am not so, all-glass is my demo....Get to know an owner and build a relationship.....(you would not believe what this will do for your hobby:))

You're in missouri so you should be close to TN where they're located or possibly be able to get them to deliver if you have any reptile shows in Missouri through out the year. Usually if they're headed to a show you can pick it up at the show without paying full delivery charges. IE shipping a tank might cost you 300.00 but if they're at a show local to you they can bring it up and they'll charge you 80.00 to pick it up there instead.

I had a preowned GC tank and I thought it was pretty nice. Only thing is make sure you get glass tops when you buy it as normal tops sold by perfecto/etc won't work. So you need some from glasscages or make your own.

Glasscages is supposed to be pretty good from what I've heard.
