glass cages

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just wanted to say that, since I've been looking for a 180 gal, I too have been looking very closely at Glasscages, but after goggling them deep, deep, deep & reading literally for hr's. (link's from 2002-current) slow reader I guess, I just can't trust that something catastrophic won't happen, if you want I'll send you the link's about absolute catastrophic horror stories that just make you say, if it seems to be to good to be true, yep, it probably is. I've seen what 5 gal's of water look like on a floor, I wouldn't even want to imagine 100-1000+. Not to mention that some experience's weren't about a slow leak, but full 36" glass sheets just bursting    so much for concerning yourself w/ the house, floor, fish  etc. that's just down right deadly & that's just not a risk I willing to take. It's not all about the $$$. Don't get me wrong, I know any manufacturer's tank can fail, but only a 90 day warranty w/ Glascages, even if you purchase their stand's & do everything they say to the letter, well that speaks volumes, don't believe, read ALL the warrenty statement. You have to figure that if this was the case w/ other manufacturer's there would be more complaint's found on the net & I've looked, hard, so if you've read the same horror stories w/ another manufacturer, please, share. And to only be in business for such a short time & have sooooooo much bad said about you, scary, cause you would think there would be serious atten. paid to the appearent prob's. that way to many customer's have had, unless you just don't care, again chk the warrenty. The truth is out there, big picture, for Glasscages, it doesn't sound good. I'm know some of you are saying :WTF: can't be that bad, for yours, your families & not to mention your fish's sake, I hope it's not. For what it's worth, just my take, BIG PICTURE. Sorry for the long read all the time, there's just nothing short about me I guess, ok well there's that 1 thing, but they say it doesn't matter, lol, what, I meant my atten. span, really. Thank you, I'm stepping dwn now, you may proceed :) :) :)

I have been very happy with my Glass Cages 240 Gallon. They were very nice to work with. A good friend of mine has a 180 from there, and we both agree they are the nicest and strongest tanks we have ever owned. I have had Perfecto, Oceanic, All Glass as well and I will take my Glass Cages tank over them anytime.

I'II stick with Great lake Aquariums in michigan. They have the best prices. They want $500 for a 180 (6footer), comes with metal stand and they guarentee it for a year. Anything happens replaced for free. Last time I was there got a 100 and a 85 with stand for around $375 w/warranty!!!!

I just purchased a 810 12x3x3 from them and after 2 months a seam blew out on a customer of mine, We are trying to make repair but they will refund me if repair fails. There tank are a bit sloppy but for price very hard to beat. good luck i just got a lemon.

Not to mention the tank is probably the worst area to start getting thrifty. The last thing someone needs is gallons of water flooding the floor, furniture, drywall and carpet. The repairs alone will cost more than the tank.

Well we all know what Chris Farley, a.k.a. "Tommy Boy" said about guarentees :grinno:

I know I am happy with my 180g from glass cages(bought used though). I know I'll never have to deal with broken plastic trim peices either. Unless I can find a better deal, most likely I will be getting a 375g from them.

This is very true, I had a AGA 110x develop a leak. Not a pretty site, luckly I was home when it happened.

A person is kidding themselves if they think a guarantee is worth anything on a tank. Unless a dealer can get a replacement from his or her distribuitor, you are not likely to get another one. I have read many threads on many forums, and it's rare anyone gets a replacement tank from anyone. The main reason for a mfg. not wanting to replace a tank, is they have no idea if it was properly set up and level, or how it has been used. An improper setup can lead to failure on any larger size tank from the uneven stress.

Do they have a websight?

well I think if a company is willing to give a lifetime warranty then they stand behind their product (personally I have a 20 year warranty on my 150) if GC.com only offers a 90 day warranty then they obviously do not stand behind their products...

also from what I have heard a lot of the time shipping costs more then the actual tank...
