im building a plywood tank its 8 ft long 4 ft wide ans 3 ft tall. i want to use 1/2 inch glass 6ft by 2ft, Is this thick enough? the tank will roughly be 620 gals. thanks for the advice!

Check out this sticky, I would go with Rivermud's calculator... I would guess no (without running the calc's), but it will depend where you locate the glass, ie if the glass is at the top - use 2', but if its at the bottom - use 3'... Follow? its the depth of water that counts, not the height of the glass.

thanks i will check that out. thie glass has been the only problem ive had building this tank. i will post pics as soon as i figure out how too.

1/2 sounds like it should be just fine.

If you are running the glass at the bottom you might want to increase the thickness as it's only a 1.1 safety factor rating for an unsupported pane. However if you are measure from the top down, ie 24 inches with 12 inches below that line you should be more than fine.

I knew I should have added the fine print. :D

I agree.

im glad i can use 1/2 this is a budget build and will get done as i get the funds.i will be measuriing from the top that way to give me more room to play with the substrate. i would like to use sand just bc i have never used it and looks great. just my opinion. i appreciate the advice from everyone if you have any other pointers for my build i would love to hear more idea's.
