So I decided to move the heater infront of the filter again since people said that it needs current flow for the heat to distribute..
so i took the heater out of the plastic cage and flipped it over to see some wierd white build-up!!
It's was all bubbly and some of it were actually bubbles, but some stayed on. Now the smooth glass heater is all ruff and nasty..
Any idea what this is?

A type of algae perhaps?

Make sure the heater is in a soft to mild current. Anything too strong wont allow the heater to distribute its heat effectivly.

it's kinda white not green though.

and i guess I have to move it again..lol
it's in front of the heater but where do you reccomend.

can you picture a 40gallon breeder tank?
there's a whisper in-tank ilter 40i on the back left corner. a floating turtle dock next to it, in the middle of the tank. Then there's the artificial rock infront of the filter, on the front left corner.
The heater used to be on the right side of the rock, where not much current comes.
Now it's right where the water flows out, where all the fish are fighting against the current

of its a covered heater... its prob just a build up alot of plastics or glass with runnig water get that... nothing to worry about... just clean it off good and if it happens again address the issue but it soudns pretty normal to me

so my plastic cage is melting???
where should I clean it off, in the tank or outside?

Im a bit slow today, so I cant picture it, but a picture will allow me to picture the picture better.

Take a pic to show me.

I would disagree with this statement. If true then inline heaters would not work and the heater in my sump would not work with the water flowing past at 750gph.

All right I'll try to draw something since taking pictures take time.. but i moved it to the other side of the tank..the far end where the water flow hits. and the water has been at 74.4 for a few hours now.

it didn't seem like calcium build-up, do they build-up underwater?
it was kinda gooey..
