A type of algae perhaps?

Make sure the heater is in a soft to mild current. Anything too strong wont allow the heater to distribute its heat effectivly.

where would the soft mild current be in my tank?
i moved the heater closer to the tank and it started rising(76F) yesterday, but i checked today and went back to 74F..
did the coldness of the night make the tank temperature go down?
