Like the title says....has anyone made glass lids for their aquariums from HD glass. I can get it cut there and would make them slide instead of lift. I used HD to make lids from their 1/4 inch thick Plexi but over time...about a week...they started to warp....bad. they work and won't fall in but they look bad and looking to go glass like I wanted to. I know about glass companies but I think that will be as much as perfecto or aqueon glass when all said and done. This will be going on a 75 gallon.

Dr Foster and Smith for the hinges and handles and any local glass and mirror shop for the glass... it'll be cheaper than Home Depot.

HD has 1/8 inch glass. Is actually cheaper than the Plexi I got. I spent 40 on the Plexi . I don't rest anything on the glass so wondering if the .125 glass is ok. I know .25 would be stronger but .125 should suffice
No? I'll also have to see if there is a mirror place around as well

I don't think the one by me cuts glass. I just bought an 8ft long greenhouse clear siding for mine. It was 15 bucks. Was a bit odd to cut, kind of like those sealed electronic packages with the razor sharp plastic. It seems to be not warping in there. Running a dual t5ho glo ballast. Gets HOT in there.

Lowes does cut glass if you have one by you.

I feel better with 1/4 inch or 3/16 but 1/8 will work.

I bought hinges and put together my own tops once. I found inserting the glas into the hinge to be super difficult. I thought i was gonna cut myself badly the entire time.

Maybe some ine has sime tips for getting the glass into the hinge?

Now i do not use the hinge. Just two pieces of glass. (Safer for me!).

Does HD round off the sharp edges on the glass panels?

I had to go the glass route due to the 1/4 inch plexi sagging bad. The glass is only 1/8 inch and at first I was a bit nervous just touching or moving it I thought I was gonna crack it. But total cost for the 4 pieces was 6-7 bucks so if it cracked not a big loss. They have been on now for a month and no problems. Just be careful with them, don't put heavy stuff on top and don't forces them to move. Mine slide so I used the 3m hooks as handles. Works good. And no they don't round the edges. Just use some sandpaper to dull the glass
