So Im getting ready to purchase a 8ft x 2ft x 3ft glass aquarium or about $800, my LFS said they can build me a seamless acrylic for about 200 to 300 more depending on what I want, if I want spray bars and over flows and tops off.. I dont need spray bars, because its for my Clown Knife.. But I have heard that glass gives a really bad distortion.. Which would you guys go with? I looked at the glass tank and it didnt look like there was much distortion.. But it didnt have water in it..

the veiw will be close to the same in each. Acrylic and glass will both distort the view, but glass may discolor it a little.

Acrylic scratches easier but its lighter (light scratches can be easily buffed out)
Glass is harder to scratch but harder to fix when it gets scratched. Its also heavier. I usually go with glass because of cost.

I prefer Acrylic mainly because being in the military i may have to move every couple of years or so and i feel acrylic is better to move with. I have never been able to really tell just how bad glass distorts.

Just curious, i noticed your in Texas, where is this LFS?

Do you move your fish aswell when you move? Im getting ready to move to San Antonio... Im afraid of giving up my Clown Knife, because I dont want him to die in the move, what would you suggest?

For only 200-300 more, I'd definately go with the acrylic. ;)
