Hello; The picture shows the chip well. Sounds like the chip has removed about half of the thickness of the glass at that point and is roughly half way up. As stated in a pervious post, I have 29 gallon tanks in use with smaller and less extensive chips. I chipped them after they were mine. So far no issues.

It is just a little below the half way up point, but the chip is definitely not half the thickness of the glass. I would argue is it less than a quarter of the thickness in the deepest spot.

If Tony decides he doesn't want it, there won't be any hard feelings. I will be listing all of the tanks in the garage on here and CL this weekend. I am completely honest about the condition and the prices reflect that. I just want them out of my garage!

I'll agree with you Brian. I had a 30 gallon that had a chip almost all the way through the glass. It held like a champ. I probably wouldn't sweat it.

But as always, the disclaimer had to be stated to use at your own risk. Of course, even setting up a brand new, perfect condition tank has its risks as well.

Definitely agreed.

I told him to contact you for NLS. He keeps Oscars and you know how those guys are pigs!

Hey tony lemme know if you decide to try and repair the glass w/ windshield techniques, im in a similar bind, would love to see how it works out.

will do!

Keep the stand an use the tank as a sump or for reptiles or rodents. I use setups just for the stand and sell the tank dirt cheap

well i'm just gonna play this one balls to the wall. its gonna be a full out aquarium. its filled and in my garage being cycled =) holds water just fine...no noises, it seems sturdy and good to go. im going to leave water in it all summer and empty it before I permanently set it up in my house in the beginning of august. only time will tell. but i think it will be just fine, hopefully my optimism doesnt kick me in the ass.

UPDATE: the tank has had NO repairs and has been full of water for a little over a month or so. The tank held the water fine, with no unsettling noises or signs of a problem. The temperature in the garage has also had major temperature variations from our Indiana summers. I believe this tank to be stable after my 'test'. I will be setting it up for long-er term placement in less than a month. wish me luck!
