im petty sure u can use whats at hand as long as it doesn't get in you tank i used spray paint with fish still in it just cover the top

The initial question we should be asking, is what material is it!. Nothing is to be taken as gospel.

Glass or Acrylic?

That will dictate and solidify your responses based on assertive knowledge of the facts.
Soluble means alone, range in increasingly complex chemical properties & scales. To which Im quite sure many of you haven't actually spared a second thought to tests for yourselves - namely to see the results and risk assessments!

We know he's attempted removal on a few occasions, so we narrow a focus. The stain itself is made of the elements that stained it, so lets talk contributes.

If the level cant be breached we delve the abrasive path to solve the issue.

On a glass tank if the vinegar and razor blades didnt take it off,the glass is etched. It happens and it wont come off.Usually not too noticable when the tank is full.

If you are thinking about the paint option: Spray works well and is fast can be accomplished with fish in tank, another "safer" method is using artist acrylic paint. Also can be accomplished with the fish in less prep, less mess, less smell, less hassel. Get a larger size tube from an art shop cut in with a brush then you can "foam roller" on a few coats. If you dont like it in the future just razor it off

If metal can be polished from a rough finish, so can glass.

If it were mine, & I was the one with the stuborn mark i couldn't remove, Id do a test patch close to the lip with a safe cutting compond like marble paste. (Masking a glass covering with overhang on yourside so nothing fell in whilst working of course)
Sandpaper route id start at P320 and finish around P1500. Final buff with your partners woolie socks just for laughs.

all that can be done between beers.

PH Down. It has a high amount of sulfur in it that instantly eats away at the calcium.
A little trick I used back in the day. Dont tell anyone though. This will be between you and me...
