glass tank weight

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
heavy man my 150 weighed a ton we had to get movers to move it (by sheer coinsidence one of the movers had a 125 gallon tank) cause my dad and the guy we were getting it from (a friend of my moms) were too weak to carry it lol

but it would really depend on the thickness of the glass and the dimensions of the tank my tank was 6' by 20" by 2' with half inch thick glass

depends on the glass thickness but shouldn't be bad. my skinny self and my skinny roomate moved my 90 and old 125 no problem. my 300 takes 4 people minimum but it's older and thicker.

There's easy ways to get stuff moved if need be. I moved my 150 from outside in the yard into my living room by myself. I had to move it up the steps onto my porch first even... they are heavy though.

Playing on google I found the statement… Glass weighs 162 pounds per cubic foot… a few other references has lead me to trust this as a close estimate…

If true… then a square foot of glass @ .5” thick weights 6.75 lbs…

A 6’ x 1.5’ @ 2’ tall 150 gal tank has 39 square feet of glass…

So there will be 263.25 lbs of glass and a pound or two of silicon and plastic rims…

150s are 27 tall. Yours came up to a 135...

Ratts... your right.... so the 150 would be 281 lbs plus silicon & plastic...

Not much different, was just saying. I had a fun time moving mine by myself, lol. It's not that it's so heavy, it's just awkward b/c of the size.

I've moved my standard 125 gal by myself... according to the weights I found earlier it weighs 240 lbs...

Once emptied... I swong one end off the stand and proped it on a chair... then swung the other end off the stand and set it on the ground...

Then I stood the tank on end, put a padded dolly on it and moved it outside... I leaned it onto the tailgate of the truck and lifted the bottom up and pushed it in...

I did the same process in reverse getting it into the new place. The only complication was pulling it up a flight of stairs...

It wasn't a fun few hours... but I got it done with no damage (to me or the tank).

Aqueon's (All-glass) 6 foot 150g is 29.5 tall, and weighs 281 pounds, if this helps:

I own one and it is extremely heavy to move.

it feels much heavier I have been told than 180g tanks that weigh about the same because the 150 is so tall but not as wide, and is much more ackward to carry as a result.

yet it weighs the same as a 180g.

281 pounds + ackwardness to carry = very tough to move.

so it is tough.

I had 4 people from the LFS deliver mine and set it on the stand.
