Glass Thermometer + Oscar =

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OK, I'm convinced.,

Inside of the thermometer is red.

I think I will go with the stick on ones as recomended.

Even though mercury is not in the therm I still don't like the fact that my O had to spit out a mouthful of glass.

What a little freak!!!

Ping Pong - didn't look back on the picture board at a reply on where my old GT is?

How's he doing? Hopefully as big of an attitude as ever.

Oliver is turning out destructive. He was quite and calm for awhile and is now starting to really get an personality. Still looking for him to put on some more size though.

9 months old now and still growing but it seems to have slowed.

haven't actually measured him in awhile.

thanks for all the holp folks.

Greg

my oscar pulled oneof those floating glass thermometers down to the bottom and let go and it hit the top and broke. not good thermometers for big cichlids for sure. i just use the plastic ones that suction to the side

i use the tetra pond thermometer in the tank with the oscars . the thermometer is completely protected and makes for a nice toy for the oscars , i don't leave it in all the time , the temperature is always the same anyway.

my digital one works great, never had an issue, i guess my fish arent psychos.

and your never supposed to 100% trust any thermometer, having 2 in one tank would give you precise readings... but im not obsessive compulsive either.

The stick on ones, always have more then one temp lit up... I have them too.

Never had a problem with any. but i like the digital cuz it gives degrees within decimal points. 84.5 degrees. ex.

He's been growing pretty well. Your water's crystal clear so I'm sure he'll keep going.

Here was my response from before:

Hey Greg, he eventually became really aggressive and I did pass him on to a friend. He's doing well. I'll try to remember to take a picture next time I'm there.

Yeah,

He was a real arse no doubt. I look at my SDs fins and am always reminded of him. They will never be the same.

Glad to hear he is doing well though. I'd love to see a picture.

Thanks Chris!

My heater (a cheap one) exploded in my tank and I really freaked out about the glass and the possibility of poisoning. Glad to hear your story turned out well (as did mine, tho' they were cold for a week or two til I could replace it), and I'd seriously consider the little tape on ones given your O's proclivities. You just don't wanna do that again, and when on the side they really aren't too bad.

My bastard oscar smashed my glass thermometer too. I went digital.

They are crazy fish no doubt. Mine has been acting foolishly for the last couple weeks. He has generally left my SDs alone all the time but is now starting to even attack them.... I thought I saw some scales floating around this morning (silver ones)...

I'm wondering if he'll even allow them to exist.

After he broke the thermometer he really has had an attitude.... like he removed a major advisary or something and is swimming around pounding his chest in victory. LOL.

He is nuts.
