wow .. i just never realized how expensive glass was. i never would have expected it to cost near that much to buy glass and get it cut. don't know anything about the trade but i didn't picture it being more then a hundred bucks or maybeee even 2 .. guess i'm way off lol

YOUR way way off
for example here in toronto
a 72 inch long 24 inch high 16 mm thick piece of glass is 515$

Even if used cheap tanks aren't cheap/available in your area, it may be worth you and your buddies taking a road trip somewhere to get one. That could save $, and be a fun time.

woah .. yup, way off .. never really thought about the fact that if glass was that checp then aquariums wouldnt be so expensive lol. makes sence now i guess

and as for a road trip .. not as easy as you think. i live in NL .. i'm on an island so when i mean no tanks in my area i mean on the whole island .. i mean i'm not planning on a trip 14 hours to the other side of the island but either way i'm including that far in saying i can't find one lol.

Sounds like a road trip may not be as feasable for you as it was for me. I neglected to read where you live.

ya if i was in america where i could possibly drive even to another state if close enough it would be different. or even some parts of mainland canada but ya .. on the island road trip isn't easy. i'd have to take a boat lol. or find one on the isand within driving distance. which is my dilema. dunno what to do now .. spending a grand on just the tank isn't easy for me at the moment. even if i decide to build my own stand.

Have you considered building a plywood tank w/just a glass front? I built a 180G that way a few years back and just used the glass from a 55G as the windows. Wasn't as attractive, but sure was budget friendly:)
