Hi all. Been getting quotes for new glass 10'x4'x3' to house my growing Monsters. Been getting a few different responses from the lfs. A couple thinks i'll need 19mm glass for the tank others say 15mm is sufficient. One guy suggested 19mm for the base and 15mm for the sides. What does every think? Reason i ask is b/c of cost. For the 15mm approx $4000 Aus. 19mm $7500-$8000. 19mm base/15mm sides $5800. Prices for tank only.

Could i get away with the 15mm glass?

A site suggested 19 mm because the hight. There maximum size with 15 mm is 600 x 120 x 85 cm, that's 5 cm (2 inch) less hight then your tank. So when you go less high you should get away with 15 mm. (don't go build one now, because it's only what I red on a tankmakers site)

It also depends on the amount of support they create with bracing.

Would all glass be my only option? Are there cheaper alternatives, like creating the walls of timber and fibreglassing it and having only a front viewing glass? Not much of a handiman so most work would have to be outsourced.

I personally would go for rust free steel for all exept the front window. Find a good welder willing to help build and calculate.

i would go with the steel but id look into aluminum its cheaper thanm stainless steel but harder to weld
i would use acrylic on a tank of that size

i think there's an old thread here which suggest "rubbermaid" to be used as tank so maybe you should check it out first since it might be a lot cheaper than glass.
