im turning a 30gal tank into a sump and was wondering how thick i needed the glass baffles/walls to be. the local hardware store only carries 1/16 thick glass. is that alright? or should i be looking for at least 1/8?
1/8 would be best as 1/16 is very thin IMO. if you cant get glass locally, what about acrylic? I have made one recently using a glass tank and acrylic baffles because I had some spare acrylic lying around.
In my sump I have acrylic baffles. They are only 1/8th of an inch thick. I've had no problem with mine. People say acrylic doesn't hold well to glass but mine has no flexing. If there is water on each side of the baffle there isn't much force being put on the baffle wall.
I wasn't even thinking acrylic, you know those plastic tubs was gonna buy them and cut apart. And sorry to the op for hijacking a little. But I also agree with using acrylic or plastic vs glass
